Freelance Contract! Could you be our Business Development Manager?

In January 2022 Brighton People’s Theatre will be creating a new business plan for the development of the company from September 2022 -September 2025. We’re excited to have external facilitation support from Ned Glasier from Company Three to kickstart this process.

The Business Development Manager role has been created to lead on the development of the business plan and fundraising needed to implement it because our Executive Director, Marina Norris, is moving on at the end of December to join Help Musicians as Interim Director of Music Services. We wish her all the best for the future and are grateful for all that she has achieved during her time with us.

Marina joined Brighton People’s Theatre a few weeks before the start of the pandemic and has been instrumental in growing and stabilising the organisation, during a very rocky time for our whole community. Over the past 20 months, she has secured funding from a range of sources for the company enabling us to expand our workshop programme and undertake R&D for our new show titled Songbird Cafe, alongside developing our staff and organisational structure.

The Board of Trustees have decided not to replace the Executive Director role at this time, but instead to focus resources in this new short-term Business Development Manager role with a clear focus on the future development of the company.

Brighton People’s Theatre is looking for a motivated Business Development Manager to join the company for a period of 7 months initially. Working closely with our Artistic Director (AD/CEO) and the rest of the Brighton People’s Theatre team, the Business Development Manager is pivotal within the company at this time of growth.

The Business Development Manager will focus on writing a 3-year business plan and fundraising between January 22 and July 22. The company is keen to build on its financial foundations, ensuring that it can develop our offer with our local community. This will mean looking at longer-term funding opportunities, specifically around Trusts and Foundations and Business Partnerships, and producing a business plan covering the period September 22 to September 25.

We’re looking for someone with at least three years’ paid experience in fundraising and one year’s experience with strategic planning. Applicants must have fundraising skills in Trusts & Foundations and Business Partnerships.

Fees
There is a £10,000 fixed fee for this, working for 40 days within the team at £250 a day across the period from January to July 22.

Location
The role can be done remotely with monthly physical visits to the Brighton office.
