Hawk in the Valley
Brighton People’s Theatre is starting an exciting new project in East Brighton and we want to meet you. We are looking for people to help make a new show that will be rooted in the stories of East Brighton.
Hawk in the Valley will be a new show born in East Brighton that looks at the theme of OPPORTUNITIES.
- What opportunities did we used to have?
- What opportunities do we have now?
- What opportunities will we have in the future?
The project will involve both conversations and workshops, led by theatre-maker JOOLS VOCE. Jools says:
“I have been making theatre with, for and about the communities I have lived in for two decades. First in London with London Bubble Theatre, Access All Areas and Mulberry Theatre, then in Berlin and now in my beloved adopted hometown, Brighton. I live in Moulsecoomb with my rescue dog Sammy, we walk together, very early, every morning to see what secrets the dawn might have to tell us- turns out there are lots. You can read more about what I get up to at juliajoolsvoce.weebly.com and come along to the Hawk in The Valley Workshops to connect and create and play together- I can’t wait to meet you there!”
Conversations
Come and have a conversation with Jools about opportunities.
Starting in January 2025, Jools is looking to meet 16 individuals or small groups to have conversations on this theme.
These conversations will be recorded and used to inspire the beginnings of a new show that will be rooted in the stories of people from East Brighton.
If you have something you want to share about this topic, a story, an experience, a perspective, a dream, a rant, or a problem – or you are just intrigued and are up for being involved you can get involved by either:

About BPT
Brighton People’s Theatre is a company that brings people together to play, explore and be part of something bigger than themselves. We often work with people who have never done any theatre before, so if you are unsure about taking the first step, we encourage you to give it a go.
Our last show Born and Bread was performed as part of the Brighton Festival in 2024, and saw many people who had never performed onstage before, absolutely owning it. But there is no pressure to perform and you can just attend the workshops and be part of the creative process.
Thanks to funding from Brighton and Hove Council’s Estates Development Budget for this project.
