Ageing Workshop: Societal Expectations of Ageing – how do we respond?

BN1 Arts, Vantage Point, New England Road, , Brighton, BN1 4GW

What does Ageing force upon us? It’s happening to all of us, but when do we talk about it?

In this workshop, we’ll explore the positives and the benefits of Ageing as well as our personal responses to society’s expectations. We are exploring Ageing at all stages in life. From cradle to grave. So if you are 18+, have a BN postcode, and don’t make your living as a professional artist, you can get involved in the making of this new show.

During each three-hour workshop, we will start with some conversations around the theme. We will play games and run some accessible theatre exercises. Then finally build up to a small performance.

At the moment we imagine the show will be a nonlinear theatre piece, formed of lots of different sketches linked by the theme rather than a traditional story. Some of the small bits of work we create in these workshops might be used in the next stage of the show’s development. This day is a chance to have a conversation, share a story, connect and play with others in a safe workshop environment and create something that might end up on the stage.

Feel free to book both of these workshops or just one. There are 15 spaces available for each workshop.

What will happen after the workshops?

The week after this workshop, there will be an opportunity to perform what you have created at BPT’s Spring Get-Together on Thursday 21 March, 7.30 pm – 10 pm. There is no pressure to perform at this, but it’s a supportive non-judgemental performance space, so we encourage people to take a creative risk and try something out if they feel like it. We’ll be holding a rehearsal for this on the 21 March at 4-6 pm venue TBC, for those that want some support before the evening.
