BPT Launches #TheatreIsForEveryone Campaign
We believe that #TheatreIsForEveryone. Brighton People’s Theatre was founded out of a desire to create theatre in a way that was more relevant and accessible to most people.
We use all of our income to bring people together through theatre, to be part of something bigger than ourselves. We work long-term with local people. We need regular donations to offer long-term support.
Help us to change the way theatre is produced so it’s accessible to everyone, especially those who’ve had the fewest opportunities.
The inequalities in how people access the arts are around a felt sense that what is on offer is not for everyone. Despite the health and wellbeing benefits of participation in the arts being well documented, our research led by communities in Brighton shows that many people from lower socio-economic or global majority backgrounds often feel excluded from publicly subsidised arts.
We know this because of the people we work with have never done anything like this before.
- 100% of our participants say their well being has improved
- 92% of our participants say their confidence has improved
- 100% of our participants would recommend us to a friend
People have told us that being creative feels like a luxury, an indulgence they cannot afford, especially in a cost-of-living crisis. This means they are losing out on the joy, escapism and connection that come from being creative with others.
The most disadvantaged are being denied their cultural rights, and the rest of society is losing out on experiencing what they might produce.
We think this is a social justice issue. We want to change it. We are a small charity. We need your support to make this happen.
