Behind the Scenes: Rosie’s Internship Experience at Brighton People’s Theatre

At Brighton People’s Theatre, we know how hard it is to find a pathway into the creative sector. We believe in the power of offering opportunities to people who might not otherwise get the chance or who experience barriers to accessing opportunities. We’re always excited to collaborate, so we jumped at the chance to work with Rosie, a third-year Media Production student from the University of Brighton for a two-month paid internship.

Opportunities like this are really valuable and allow individuals to gain real-world experience and insight into the working world of the creative industries. It offers a space to learn, grow, and contribute, and it’s been a joy to see Rosie flourish during her time with us. Rosie said she never would have thought to work with a theatre company had it not been for this opportunity, and we had a blast working with her! Here’s a closer look at her experience and the impact this opportunity has had on her in her own words.

A word from Rosie

Hello! I’m Rosie, and I’m a third-year Media Production student from the University of Brighton. I joined Brighton People’s Theatre as a Content Creator Intern for 7 weeks, and I really enjoyed my experience.

During my time at BPT, I had the chance to see how a local theatre company brings people together through creativity. It’s a welcoming environment for anyone interested in the arts, and my role allowed me to connect with the members and take part in different activities, which I had never done before. I have met some truly amazing people who have left an impact on me. This experience has also helped me form new friendships.

It was my responsibility to communicate with BPT’s Communications Manager, Niamh Hicks, to find out what kind of content BPT wanted to create. We decided it would be good for BPT to create some evergreen content and a video to showcase BPT and its members.

I attended weekly workshops and took photos to try and capture the essence of BPT. I also interviewed BPT members and staff and worked on projects to show what BPT does and how they make theatre accessible to everyone.

I have enjoyed my experience at BPT. I’ve met a lot of lovely people and had a lot of insightful conversations which I will remember for a long time. It’s honestly been an amazing opportunity with a lot of laughs. I’ve also really benefited from finding out about how media and theatre can collaborate to create something great. It’s wonderful to see how people of all ages and backgrounds can bond through their love of theatre and play. I now have a better understanding of the theatre community and how enjoyable it can be. Thanks, Brighton People’s Theatre.
