BPT Way of Being
We bring people together to be part of something bigger than ourselves.
We strive to create a diverse, equitable and inclusive community where people from really different walks of life can feel a sense of belonging.
People develop friendships through playing and making theatre together. Our members tell us that this sense of community is part of why they love being in BPT.
In order to make the spaces we hold as safe as possible, we ask everyone in the BPT community to uphold our way of being. We strive to be:
- OPEN
- FEARLESS
- PLAYFUL
- RESPECTFUL
What does this mean?
We want people to play, have fun and enjoy themselves.
We also want people to feel comfortable and as safe as possible. This is why we ask everyone in a BPT space to embody these qualities.
OPEN
We will do our best to create an inclusive and welcoming space open to all people.
We ask staff, participants and members to:
- Be open to each other and the wide variety of lived experiences in the BPT community
FEARLESS
We will do our best to create a psychologically safe space to play and work. By this, we mean a culture that promotes trust, open communication, and mutual respect.
We ask staff, participants and members to:
- Tell us if anything happens that doesn’t feel good/right so we can make adjustments
PLAYFUL
We will do our best to create spaces that allow for the playful exploration of the big issues of our times.
We ask staff, participants and members to:
- Have fun and be kind; aiming to play in a way that doesn’t make other people feel uncomfortable
RESPECTFUL
We will do our best to be respectful in all our interactions.
We ask staff, participants and members to:
- Not use sexualised or discriminatory (ageist, ableist, classist, homophobic, racist, sexist or transphobic) language and behaviour
Your voice matters. Your experience matters. We are trying to build a theatre company for everyone.
The staff at BPT will always do our best to listen and learn from you. If something has made you feel uncomfortable then please talk to us, in person, or via email: [email protected]
If you would prefer to talk to someone outside of the BPT team you can email [email protected] and the Chair of the Board will listen to you.
On the rare occasion that someone’s behaviour reduces our ability to create as safe a space as possible, the Board of Trustees will meet to discuss their inclusion in the BPT community.
