The Museum of Life: BPT Conversation Sessions
Founders Room, Brighton Dome, Church Street, Brighton, BN1 1UE
Tell us your story and help make our next show.
We’re starting research for our latest show which will be on the theme of AGEING and we want to speak to you.
We’re all doing it – every moment, every day, every year, every decade, from cradle to grave.
But when do we get to talk about it?
We’re having conversations with people of all ages (18+) to hear about their experiences of AGEING, and we are running two open conversation sessions at Brighton Dome to help us research our new show called THE MUSEUM OF LIFE.
Date:
- Sunday 2 February – 2.30 pm – 4.30 pm
This workshop will take place in the Founders Room at Brighton Dome.
What will happen at these sessions?
These sessions will be open and friendly workshops which will have a focus on connection and conversation. We will spend most of the time chatting about some of the key questions we have such as
- How has your sense of self changed as you’ve aged?
- Can you tell me about a moment where you gained something as a result of ageing?
- Is ageing the same for men and women? Is it the same for rich and poor? Is it the same in different cultures? Is it the same in different communities?
We want to hear what you have to say about these questions and other things that come up naturally in the conversation.
Using these conversations as a starting point, we will then develop a script for the show which we will turn into a full production over the next year.
We are looking for every age and every perspective. Maybe you have something to share about your experience of ageing? Maybe you have a unique perspective on this theme? Maybe you have a story, a thought, a reflection, a moment in your life you’ll never forget, or maybe you’re not sure but you just fancy coming and having a chat. We would love to speak to you.
What will you do with the material?
All conversations and contributions will contribute to our next show. Everyone we speak to will be invited to our first sharing which will be a work in progress at the Dome Studio Theatre in Spring 2025, and everyone we speak to will be invited to this first sharing.
How else can I get involved?
If you can’t make these sessions there are a couple of other ways of sharing your story:
- Email [email protected] and arrange a time to meet
- You can record a voice note directly on WhatsApp and send your story or thoughts directly to us at 07503 430188.
You can remain anonymous or be credited for your contribution, but we will ask you to sign a waiver to allow us to use the material
To get an idea of the kind of work Brighton People’s Theatre makes, have a look at our last show Born and Bread which was part of the Brighton Festival in 2024. We co-create theatre shows with Brighton people, finding untold stories and bringing them to life on the stage.
And if you are interested you can get involved in the work we do every week. Please come along to one of our drop-in-workshops which are every Thursday from 6-8 pm during school term time at Friends Meeting House. Come and play. Book a workshop here.
